Shadow Ropes

The shadows are dark inside my mind
They lurk in gloom and bide their time
Swimming slowly round and round
Looking for happiness to surround

I cannot shake their claws
Or their wicked tongues
That whisper foul things
Lies and truths and hate
They latch onto thought
And slowly suffocate

It's harder to breath now
To go day by day
When everything good
Is turned bad to hate
And the whispers don't go away
I don't know what the lie is

The shadows are wrapped around my mind
Cold and unfeeling and well designed
To pull the rope tighter and tighter
And heaven knows I'm no fighter
