Series: A Collection of Sonnets
Preceding: In This Place
Stretch out your arms towards the darkened sky,
Feel the acid drops upon your soft skin;
The rain drowns out the hoarse questioning why,
Why the Earth allows such misery within?
Within its heart, and within yours it burns,
The longing to break free from this grey sky;
And falls the rain, and falls; never you learn
To shake the drops from your feathers and fly.
Never fly, for the Earth pulls you down, down,
Downward, spiral, under grey sky you meet
The rain soaked earth, the wings ripped from your back,
All dreams will die with you, as rain does drown
Sound in your throat as you cry out defeat,
And falls the rain, and makes your final grave.
