Breath, Bones, Break

The air is a thousand tiny knives
Tearing apart my lungs
From the inside;
Piece by piece my breath
Comes ragged and ragged
By the moment;
My eyes stare to the distance
A layer of gloss seals them
Open to stare to the distance;
In my heart a knot of thorns
Piercing and suffocating all
At once as the screams
Soar over my head unheard;
My tongue lays leaden
In my mouth as a mute lump
None of the words in my throat
Can scream their way out.
Instead they draw spirals of blood
Inside my skin, screaming.
